G B PODAR Podar College has inherited its unique legacy from great visionaries and philanthropists such as Mahatma Gandhi, Pt. Madan Mohan Malaviya, Shri Jamnalal Bajaj, and Shri Anandilal Podar who played an instrumental role in the setting up the Anandilal Podar Trust. The Anandilal Podar Trust was established as Anandilal Podar Charitable Society in the year 1921 with Father of Nation, Mahatma Gandhi as one of the Founder Chairman-Trustee. The College came into existence as a Bhramchary ashram in the year 1921 which was converted into a High School in 1930. The school was promoted as the first intermediate Institution in the Shekhawati region in 1942. The present status of G B Podar College came into existence with the starting of UG and PG courses in Commerce in 1946 and 1947, respectively and the College got the honor of being the first coeducational college in Rajasthan. The courses in Science were started in the year 1956 and Podar College again became the first Institution with Science Stream in the Shekhawati region. The biology stream was started as early as in the year 1956. The faculty of Arts was also started with a Science stream in the year 1956 and PG courses in English and History were opened in the year 1998. Presently, the faculty offers courses in different subjects like Hindi, English, History, Political Science, Sociology, and Economics. During the period from 1998 to 2003, the College made remarkable progress by introducing PG courses in Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, and Zoology. Apart from the conventional courses, the College has also offered professional courses in Management Studies and Information Technology as BBA and BCA, respectivsincefrom the mid-1990s. The College Library is one of the oldest and richest libraries in Rajasthan. It has equipped a large collection of books by Indian and Foreign authors. It has an open-shelf system for access to about 80,000 books an and exclusive collection of encyclopedias. It subscribes to large num ber danewspaperspers, magazines, journals, and information bulletins of repute. Apart from the journals and the textbooks, the library maintains a rich Reference Section yearbooksooks, rare collectiencyclopediasedia, and dictionaries. In nutshell, it is evident from the historical background of the College that it has been far ahead of other institutions in the region in introducing new programs and courses rapidly. Along with the academic courses, the students may also develop their personality by taking participation in NSS, NCC, and Scouts and Guide activities. To develop a multidimensional personality, the College also provides its learner’s learners with a gymnasium, a swimming pool, and the opportunity to perform in various games and sports as well.
